After much heart wrenching, contemplative thought and deep deliberation, I have decided that this will be my final blog post. Im sad, but we're much too busy out here and I can't keep up with them. I have enjoyed doing them, and maybe one day I'll do them again. But for now, please enjoy this farewell post. Love, Barbara

While we were back in Virginia, keeping busy, we had the most incredible thing happen at Moose Point Lodge. On January 9th, my mom and I had been to a couple of appointments and we were headed back to Bickford Assisted Living. We stopped to pickup lunch at a Mexican Restaurant when Don texted me:

There, sitting in the car in front of the Mexican place, I grabbed my cellphone and clicked on the Nest app. Then I saw them . . . a mother mountain lion walking through our backyard. And following her were four little kittens. It was the most wonderful surprise to see on our iPhones!
Eventually, January faded into February . . . and February slowly opened the door to March. It seemed like March 11th would never come.
Then, finally . . . we were flying into Jackson Hole! YAY!!!

You'll notice that there is very little snow on the ground and it has melted quite quickly with the warm weather. Very unusual for March.
In the car and headed away from the airport.

Back at Moose Point Lodge, this was our view March 11th. It doesn't get any better than that!!!

Except, if there is a bald eagle sitting in a pine tree in the backyard to welcome us home.

We unpacked our bags, put things away and headed to Nora's for dinner and a glass of wine. Great day! Great evening! Great to be back!!!
The next morning, we did what we always do . . . we went for a wildlife drive! Saw a herd of elk with a handsome bull!

Also saw a couple of mule deer crossing the river.

The Canada geese haven't gotten any smarter. They're roosting in an osprey nest, again. We can't figure out how the babies get down from there after they hatch.

And, we saw a moose!
March 14th, we went for another drive. Saw a young moose and it's mom in Wilson.

Mom was looking a little motley. But they did just come through winter, that's to be expected.

Back at home, we were getting snow at Moose Point Lodge, too.
March 15th was a Sunday. We had prepared a nice, hot breakfast. Fresh fruit, scrambled eggs and fresh biscuits with honey and hot coffee. We sat down to eat and noticed some motion in the trees between our house and Stan & Mary's. At first, we thought it was a dog. But, then there were two of them! And one was shaking it's paw . . . like a cat. Like a BIG CAT!
Slowly, but surely, all four mountain lion kittens made their way out of the trees and up our driveway!

Two of them even came up the stairs toward the mudroom door!

It did! It paused on the first step and huddled down behind the snow . . . waiting.

Another kitten was on it's way to the stairs.

When that kitten got close to the steps, the sneaky cat hiding behind the snow tried to scare its sibling!

They made their way along our front porch to the driveway and around to the back of the house. Eventually all four climbing onto the rock wall overlooking the valley.

And then there was one. The other 3 jumped down off of the wall and headed toward the river. This one followed shortly thereafter.

Once the kittens left, we decided to head into the Grand Teton National Park to see what was moving there. Beautiful vistas!

And, we spotted a great grey owl in a pine tree along the road. That doesn't happen very often. Don pulled over so I could get a couple (well . . . several) shots.

Back on the road . . .

We turned toward Kelly . . .

And spotted some moose in the distance.

Along the Moose Wilson Road, just up from Sawmill Pond (aka Moose Pond) we saw a couple more moose!

On the Elk Refuge, we spotted several small herds of big horn sheep.

And a well camouflaged coyote.

The next day at home, there was a juvenile bald eagle in one of the back yard pine trees.

March 17th, about 10:00 am, we noticed some activity in the backyard. I was too late to capture the action, but our newly installed trail cameras did the job!
. . . and four!
Down in the Park behind our house, Don was doing a little fishing -

Happened to see four very nice bull elk cross the river just up from Don's fishing hole!

Back down in the Park the next day, I spotted some Barrow's goldeneye ducks.

The one that got away!

THIS ISN'T MY LAST BLOG POST. IT'S MY FIRST BLOG POST OF THE YEAR. APRIL FOOLS!!!
We spent the next day preparing for a 5-day trip to Thermopolis. Don had booked a 3-day fishing trip, which included two full days in the Wind River Canyon. March Fishing in Wyoming? My thoughts exactly!
Until then, take good care & HAPPY APRIL FOOLS DAY!!!
